Large Pink Drip Glaze Art Deco Shorter & Son Dish
Large Pink Drip Glaze Art Deco Shorter & Son Dish
This is a super example of art deco design by the Shorter & Son factory. Clarice Cliff worked for the factory and married Colley in 1940. The glaze is pink lavender and ivory.
It can either be used with flowers in chicken wire or a flower frog, used with a kenzan for a stylised ikebana influenced design or used for a houseplant.
Width 22cm
Depth 18cm
Height 8.4cm
No cracks, no chips, crazing.
The dish has three marks on the base where it stood on a firing stilt in the kiln to keep the glaze off the shelves. It also has marks in the interior at the centre where the glaze has pooled and got worn off over the years.
